About Me

Hi, I’m Meg, the maker behind Playful Makes.

I’ve always had a passion for all things creative, but my love for sewing truly began during the pandemic, when I started making face masks for family and friends. What began as a practical way to help quickly turned into something much more meaningful — a creative practice that brought calm, focus, and a lot of joy.

Since then, I’ve fallen in love with spending my free time sewing and designing soft, handmade plush dolls, and creating patterns that make the process approachable and enjoyable for others too.

Why I make what I make

I’m drawn to making that feels slow, thoughtful, and satisfying. Sewing offers a quiet rhythm — cutting, stitching, turning, filling — that allows space to slow down and enjoy the process.

Playful Makes grew from this idea:
that creativity doesn’t need to be rushed or complicated to be meaningful.

My patterns, kits, and handmade pieces are designed to be:

  • calm and beginner-friendly
  • clearly explained and easy to follow
  • focused on learning through doing
  • timeless rather than trendy

Whether you’re sewing on your own or sharing the process with a child, I want each project to feel encouraging and rewarding.

Learning through making

Many of my designs are created as learning projects, not just finished objects. I try to explain not only what to do, but why certain steps matter, helping you build confidence and skills as you go.

Some people come to Playful Makes to learn something new, others to slow down and enjoy a mindful hobby — both are equally welcome here.

About the dolls

The dolls are designed with simplicity and warmth in mind. I focus on:

  • soft, natural-feeling fabrics
  • gentle shapes and expressions
  • hand-stitched details
  • a calm, timeless aesthetic

Finished dolls are made slowly and in small batches. They are intended as decorative or heirloom-style pieces, created with care rather than mass production.

A small, thoughtful studio

Playful Makes is a small, independent studio run by me, from start to finish. Every pattern, kit, and handmade item reflects my love for making and my belief that creativity should feel approachable and enjoyable.

Thank you for being here, for supporting a small creative business, and for choosing to make something with your hands.
